Launched a website but cannot find it on Google? Discover the technical and SEO reasons why Indian business websites remain invisible and how to fix them.

You just paid an agency to build a beautiful website for your business. You type your company name into Google, expecting to see it at the top. But instead, you see your competitors, random directories, and maybe your Facebook page. Your website is nowhere to be found.

For Indian SMEs, this is a deeply frustrating experience. A website that Google cannot find is a billboard buried underground.

If your website is not appearing on Google, it usually comes down to one of two problems: Google literally does not know it exists (a technical issue), or Google does not think it deserves to rank (a relevance issue). Here is a practical guide to diagnosing and fixing the problem.

Problem 1: Google Does Not Know You Exist (Indexing Issues)

Google does not automatically know when a new website is launched. It has to "crawl" the internet to find it.

The Test: The site: Operator
Go to Google and type: site:yourwebsite.com (replace with your actual domain).

  • If results appear: Google knows about your website, but it is ranking poorly. Skip to Problem 2.
  • If ZERO results appear: Google has not indexed your website.

Why is your site not indexed?

  1. It is too new: If you launched the site yesterday, Google simply hasn't found it yet. It can take a few days to a few weeks.
  2. You accidentally blocked Google: Developers often use a tag in the code called noindex while building the site to keep it hidden. Sometimes, they forget to remove it when the site goes live. If this tag is present, Googlebot is explicitly told to go away.
  3. Your Robots.txt file is blocking crawlers: Similar to the noindex tag, your robots.txt file might be configured to block search engines.
  4. No one is linking to you: If absolutely zero other websites link to yours, Google has no pathways to discover you.

The Fix:
Create a free account on Google Search Console. Submit your website's XML Sitemap. This acts as a direct invitation, telling Google exactly where your pages are.

Problem 2: Google Knows You Exist, But You Do Not Rank (Relevance Issues)

If the site: search showed your pages, but you still cannot find your business when searching for your services, you have a ranking problem.

1. You Lack Search Intent Alignment

If you are a commercial roofing contractor in Chennai, but your homepage just says "Welcome to XYZ Enterprises - Quality First," Google doesn't know what you do. You must explicitly use the words your customers are typing into Google (e.g., "Commercial Roofing Services in Chennai").

2. Your Website is a "Digital Brochure" (Thin Content)

Many Indian business websites only have 5 pages with 50 words on each page. Google wants to send users to authoritative sources. If your competitor has a 1,000-word page explaining their manufacturing process, quality control, and shipping policies, Google will rank them above your 50-word summary.

3. Your Mobile Experience is Poor

In India, the vast majority of web traffic is mobile. Google uses "Mobile-First Indexing." If your website takes 8 seconds to load on a 4G connection, or if the text is too small to read on a phone, Google will push you down the rankings.

4. You Lack Local Authority

If you run a local business (like a clinic or a retail store), your website needs to be connected to a verified Google Business Profile. You also need consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) citations across local Indian directories (like JustDial or IndiaMart).

What This Means for Your Business

Building a website is only 50% of the job. Making it visible is the other 50%.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is not a scam or dark magic; it is simply the process of making your website technically sound and highly relevant to your customers' questions.

If your website is invisible, do not immediately buy expensive Google Ads. Fix the technical foundation first. Verify your site on Google Search Console, ensure your code isn't blocking crawlers, and rewrite your content so it clearly states what you sell and where you sell it.

At Nutz, we build websites with technical SEO baked into the code from day one, ensuring that when your site goes live, Google can find, read, and rank it. Learn more about our web development services.
